The true Australian Labradoodle has six parent breeds and originated in the 1980's in Australia. In addition to the Lab and the Poodle they have infused genetics from the following breeds. The Irish Water Spaniel, Curly Coated Retriever, American Cocker Spaniel and English Cocker Spaniel. Temperament and Soundness are the two key elements in the breed and should never be sacrificed in a good family companion.
General Appearance:
According to the ALAA, at first glance an Australian Labradoodle should appear "athletic and graceful with a compact, medium-boned body." After a joyous greeting, their intelligence becomes clear as they sophisticatedly gauge the room for emotion.
The Australian Labradoodles ability to read the room and the willingness to mold to a family's ever-changing dynamics and plans is what has locked our family into this breed of dog for life!
Physical Structure and Attributes:
Australian Labradoodles should have a well-bound frame, square in height from shoulders to tail. The chest should have depth and allow for a tuck from the base of the chest to the loins. Australian Labradoodles are lean but well-muscled dogs with great athletic ability. Their gate when walking or running at adulthood is powerful but seemingly effortless. Silent movement is essential to the standard of these wonderful animals.
Speaking from my personal experience with these wonderful animals, they can outrun you on your most intensive workout (for the majority, maybe not you marathon runners!) and out-sleep you on your laziest day (not advocating for being lazy with your dog, just saying that I've slept until noon on some COVID days and my girls were right beside me).
We can generally expect to have to step over a dog lying in the floor beside or behind us that we didn't know was there if we stand in one place for too long (cooking, doing dishes or laundry).
Size:
According to the ALAA the sizes are as follows,
Between 14 and 24 inches (35 to 63 centimeters) in height at wither, but not more than 25 inches. Weighs between 15 and 65 pounds (7 to 30 kilograms).
At this stage in the breed’s development, the Australian Labradoodle comes in three size ranges. Inter-size breeding is acceptable and expected at the moment.
Miniature range: Between 14 and 16 inches (35 to 42 centimeters) in height at wither, but not more than 17 inches.
Medium range: Between 17 and 20 inches (43 to 52 centimeters) in height at wither, but not more than 21. Ideal size for a female is 17 to19 inches; for a male, 18 to 20 inches.
Standard range: Between 21 and 24 inches (53 to 63 centimeters) in height at wither, but not more than 25 inches.

Coats of Harmony Labradoodles:
Fleece: The Fleece textured coat is a soft texture as in the Angora goat. It can either have a straight wavy look or a soft spiraling curl look. It is an easy to manage textured coat. This is our most preferred coat type by clients and ourselves. We have found most fleece coats to be allergy-friendly.
Wool: The wool coat is less likely to shed because of the nature of the more tightly wound curls trapping any broken hairs, this also makes the wool coat a more allergy-friendly (typically) because of the same properties. For a clean cut shorter look, wool coats will only require grooming roughly 3 to 4 times a year with clippers and of course the regular eye trims as needed.
